The Great Crib Escape!

Well, here we are, we made it 2 years and 3 months…Yesterday, I put Aubrey down for her nap, she did her normal chatting for a few minutes and then it was silent. I went downstairs and made a phone call and while I was on the phone, I see Aubrey's sweet little face peering around the couch and smiling. Her stealthy ninja moves not only got her out of her crib without me knowing, but all the way down the stairs and into the kitchen. I was shocked and thought it was a little funny so unfortunately, I laughed…Well, the laughing only made it worse because at that point, Aubrey thought it was a game. I took her upstairs and told her to lay down and go to sleep, then I proceeded to go back downstairs and continue on with what I needed to do for the day. Not two minutes later I hear the thump, thump, thump of little toddler feet in the upstairs hallway then I hear her sweet little giggle then she popped her head into the living room again. The cycle continued…I told her to go back upstairs and get in her bed and she said "Oh ok, I will!" and she ran back upstairs giggling because she knew I was following her. This continued about four times until I finally decided that maybe I should sit in her room until she fell asleep (it works on Super Nanny).

She laid down and was quiet for about five minutes so I was about to pat myself on the back and give myself a gold star until suddenly she stands up in her crib, looks me straight in the face (I am trying to ignore her at this point) and says "Hey Mom, how was your day?" I have to cover my face at this point to refrain from laughing then she says again "Hey Mommica, how was your day?" At this point I started to crack up because she recently saw the movie "Monsters VS. Aliens" and she thought it would be funny to start calling me "Ginormica" which turned into "Mommica."
Holding back my laughs I had to spank her because it had been over an hour and it was starting to get old (I had stuff to get done)! Thankfully, Andy was on his way home and he has some way about making her do what he says on the first try. I told her that I was going to lay her down one more time and she better be asleep before Daddy got home or else she would get a Daddy spanking. She laid down, I left the room then I hear some noise (she is trying to escape again) and then the garage door opens and she hears it. She knew at that minute that if she wasn't in her bed she would be in big trouble because now Daddy is home. Well, she was halfway out of her crib and she was stuck…she needed help getting back in her bed so she starts crying…I walk in her room to find this...

I'm not quite sure if this was her normal escape strategy, but I wouldn't be surprised. The child is a jumper and I wouldn't put it pass her to jump from this position. She was caught red-handed! Andy went in the room one time, told her to go to sleep and not get up again (he didn't even have to use corporal punishment) and she laid right down and went to sleep! This morning she didn't try to get out, she just called me so I think I will wait a little bit longer to switch her crib to a toddler bed. Oh the joys!
